| By Laura Vecsey What's the latest on conservative Republicans who could be 2012 presidential candidates? Sarah Palin took a job with Fox News. Rick Santorum sent a letter to supporters this past weekend saying he might run for president. “After talking it over with my wife, Karen, and our kids, I am considering putting my name in for the 2012 presidential race,'' he said to members of America's Foundation, his political action committee. Santorum, whose letter was first published by the National Review Online, has bumped his national profile with trips to South Carolina, Michigan, Virginia and Iowa, where he has spoken out against President Barack Obama, held fundraisers and campaigned for Republican candidates. In his letter, Santorum calls on his supporters to join him in an effort toward defeating Obama in 2012. "That’s why it falls to us – you and me – to take back our country now, before it’s too late. And I’ve got a “3-step” plan for how you and I can accomplish this crucial task – starting now in 2010. Because you’ve been with me through thick and thin, I wanted to share this plan with you first before anyone else. It’s this simple: 1. Reinforce our conservative allies in Congress for the next 11 months in order to slam the brakes on the Obama agenda. 2. Take back the House of Representatives in the 2010 election. 3. Lay the groundwork to defeat Barack Obama in the 2012 election. You heard me right.'' |
